4 Abundant life ~ Nothing Bad Lasts Forever

4 Abundant life Blog #7

Nothing Bad Lasts Forever

We hear this comment often when we are going through a difficult time, “nothing bad lasts forever”. While it does not provide much comfort or encouragement at the time, it is true. With one condition…as long as we are doing what we can, while we can.

In other words, bad times will happen. However, the promise or redemption is true and it will not last unless we do nothing about it. This is where it is important to delineate between what we can and cannot change about our bad situation. Sometimes it seems as though everything is out of our control and yet we have 2 things that we can always do:

1.Pray (PUSH – Pray Until Something Happens).

2.Change our attitude.

It has often been said that “our attitude is our last human freedom”. We are free to be positive or negative. We are free to think good or bad things. We are free to choose hope or despair. Of course, positive, good, hopeful attitudes move us forward while negative, bad, and despair attitudes keep us stuck.

The Old Testament prophet Habakkuk was going through one of those “bad times” when the evil power of Babylon seemed to go unchecked. The wicked went unpunished (for a time). Basically, God’s people were under siege by an oppressive enemy. The Babylonians were stealing, killing, and destroying at will. It is most definitely a “bad time”.

Habakkuk 2: 2-3 has God’s answer in this bad situation “Then the Lord replied, Write down the revelation and make it plain on tablets so that a herald may run with it. For the revelation awaits an appointed time; it speaks of the end and will not prove false. Though it linger, wait for it; it will certainly come and will not delay.”

The term “revelation” is defined as, “revealing or disclosing some form of truth or knowledge through communication with a deity”. The revelation promise is that nothing bad lasts forever. There is an appointed time (and place) when redemption happens. Our job is simple according to the verse, write down your revelation (prayer for redemption), run with it (do something), have faith (confident trust it will certainly come to pass).

We talk more about the promises of time limitations to the bad things in life in Chapter 4; using our talents and gifts in Chapter 7; and powerful transformational prayers in Chapter 12 of our book 4 Abundant Life.

Application:

When something bad has happened, do the following in order to live 4 Abundant Life:

  • Pray. Write down your prayer for redemption from this “bad” situation. What do you want?

  • Do something. Keep using your talents and gifts.

  • Change your attitude. Be faithful (confidently trusting) that the promises of the King of the Universe are true. Redemption and transformation from bad to abundant are promises found throughout the Bible

Once again, we look forward to hearing about your experiences of transformation into a life of abundance! Drs. Eric and Joanna Oestmann
